Constable Care in the Territory

Constable Care has partnered with the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and the Northern Territory Police to deliver programs to primary schools and indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. Commenced in 2010 as an 18-month FaHCSIA funded pilot project, our NT program focuses on delivering life skills and community values education to children in remote indigenous communities, including Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Groote Island, Maningrida and Wadeye communities to name but a few.

Aiming to deliver at least 150 performances to more than 7,000 children during the period, the program uses culturally-appropriate puppet shows and plays to bring key messages to indigenous children aged two to twelve years. Our performers travel by light plane and four wheel drive to remote communities to deliver life skills and community values education on topics such as:

  • improving community safety and crime prevention
  • better health and hygiene
  • protective behaviours, and strategies to prevent and address child abuse
  • dealing with bullying
  • having respect and individual responsibility

Constable Care uses indigenous puppets, culture and language-appropriate scripts and employs indigenous performers wherever possible to deliver its NT and remote WA indigenous programs.
